The LeBron James-starring Space Jam 2 is close to landing a director.
According to Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap, Terence Nance is in “advanced negotiations” to helm the project. Nance, a Texas-born filmmaker who executive produced HBO’s “Random Acts of Flyness” is the second director attached to the project, after earlier reports linked “Fast and Furious'” Justin Lin.
Gonzalez reports LeBron James deal with Warner Bros means he’ll get the final say on the script. He also revealed some casting rumors.
James signed a production deal with Warner Bros. and “Space Jam 2” is being developed with the new Los Angeles Laker forward in mind, though he’ll need to approve the script before officially signing on to star. Other basketball players are expected to cameo, though it’s currently unclear whether Bill Murray will return.
The appetite for Space Jam 2 is real and LeBron (who’s a pretty solid actor) is the perfect choice to star. He’s got charisma, looks and is honestly, the whole package. Once the Los Angeles Lakers star approves a script and a deal with Nance is a go, I’d expect production to start immediately. Which NBA players would you like to see cameo in the film?
