When the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, there were many doubting his ability as an NBA-caliber player. And thus far throughout Summer League, he has done very little to prove those doubters including Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown wrong.
Brown was in attendance for Monday’s Summer League matchup between the Lakers and the Celtics, where Bronny yet again struggled to make much of an impact.
During Monday’s game, Brown was captured on video talking to his girlfriend Kysre Gondrezick and WNBA star Angel Reese courtside, where he appeared to doubt Bronny’s ability as an NBA player.
“I don’t think Bronny [James] is a pro,” Brown seemingly said.
“I think he’ll be on the G-league team for sure,” Gondrezick responded.
“I don’t think so, I think because of his name he’ll be on the Lakers,” added Brown.

There is obviously no audio here, but it seems to be quite obvious what was said if can read lips even a little bit. And the incredibly harsh part of this is that it certainly isn’t an unjustified criticism from Brown.
Thus far in Summer League, Bronny has simply not proven to be a player that should transition to the NBA right away.
Only time will tell whether he does indeed earn a roster spot on the Lakers by the time the 2024-25 season comes around. But either way, he will certainly need to show a bit of growth in the meantime before he gets a real chance at the NBA level.
