Matthew Dellavedova has become somewhat of a villain these NBA playoffs for being a “dirty player” — kind of a hitman for Lebron James. First, it was Kyle Korver’s right ankle that Dellavedova tumble rolled into, causing an ankle sprain that required surgery. Then, there were suspicions that he intentionally tried to get Al Horford ejected by dragging him to the floor and goading him into a physical foul.
Amidst all of the hate, Dellavedova was happy to receive some support from his hometown newspaper. The Maryborough District Advertiser ran a group of kids holding “Go Delly” signs on its front page.
Outside of the suspicions of dirty play, Dellavedova’s been having himself a playoffs. After Kyrie Irving went down with a knee strain and ankle sprain, he emerged as a serious role player with the help of James. In 14 playoff games, he’s averaging 7.0 points and 2.6 assists in 21.9 minutes per game.
I for one like Dellavedova. I think he deserves the support from his hometown.
