In order to confirm that the stories were true, and not merely the concoction of inventive photoshops or Instagram filters, ESPN visited Amar’e Stoudemire to interview him while he took one of his famous red wine baths.
And yes, a red wine bath is exactly what it sounds like.
Aside from essentially being a very expensive bath, bathing in red wine (also called “Vinotherapy”) may have health benefits if one buys into what some spas are selling.
Vinotherapy Studio in Atascadero claims that “The substances found in the acids of the wine grape are known to strengthen micro circulation while increasing the resistance of the blood cells and protecting the skin’s elastic and collagen fibers. Additional research shows that wine therapy (resveratrol) has been linked to help with skin cancers, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, muscle memory, toning of muscles, reduces varicose veins, eases allergies and fights stress and depression. Our grape-seed extract in our services is seven times more effective than Vitamin E.”
The only thing that can be said for sure about a red wine bath is that it sure makes for an interesting interview environment. Especially when the interview somehow ends up with both the interviewer and the interviewee sharing a tub of red wine.
Seriously, who asks Amar’e Stoudemire if he’s drank the bath wine before admitting he would if Amar’e wasn’t there?
