While the NBA All-Star Weekend may be hard to tops in terms of pure entertainment value, the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival may give the NBA a run for its money this year.
On February 13th, TIFF Next Wave will be holding a live read of Michael Jordan marketing ploy and iconic work of art Space Jam in Toronto to coincide with the NBA All-Star festivities. While there’s no word on who will participate in the live reading of the greatest sports film of my childhood all-time, the announcement for the event does promise “an exciting lineup of talent from the sports and entertainment world.” Cast announcements are expected to be announced leading up to the show.
TIFF Next Wave has a lot to live up to with their live read. Space Jam is one hell of an act to replicate but, as James Herbert of CBS Sports notes, the folks at Funny or Die proved that it’s definitely possible to capture the magic of Space Jam with nothing but a table and some microphones.
