Remember when Ronda Rousey was at the pinnacle of the MMA universe?
Up until her Nov. 15 fight against Holly Holm, Rousey wasn’t just the most popular UFC figure, she arguably was the biggest fighter in the world. It wasn’t a matter of whether she’d win a fight, it was a matter of how quickly.
Rousey won the 2015 ESPY for Best Fighter and earned a spot on the cover of EA Sports’ “UFC 2” video game. People even dressed as Rousey for Halloween. Soon after that, though, things spiraled downward.
Rousey was dismantled by Holm in their bout and has barely had her face shown publicly ever since. Once everyone found out that she’s not the indestructible force we all thought she once was, her status as a celebrity and adored figure in the UFC was tarnished. And judging by an Instagram post she uploaded Monday, she’s aware of this sad fact.
It’s tough not to feel bad for Rousey. You can’t just disregard her past accomplishments, but it just goes to show how easy it is from the top to rock bottom in a “what have you done for me lately?” kind of sport.
