Well, the Florida Miami Marlins have certainly perfected the art of the “fire sale.” The Marlins dumped shortstop Jose Reyes, pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, utility player Emilio Bonifacio and catcher John Buck in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night, in turn successfully dumping approximately $165 million in salary from their payroll.
Miami got shortstops Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria, as well as pitchers Henderson Alvarez and Justin Nicolino in the deal.
So basically, they hit the “Restart” button just like the Red Sox did back in August.
As you can imagine, this left Giancarlo Stanton (probably the only talented player left on the Marlins roster) pretty upset. Stanton sent out this tweet immediately following the announcement of the deal:
Alright, I’m pissed off!!! Plain & Simple

Uh oh.
