Former Cubs’ ace Kerry Wood found a dead body while on a paddleboard excursion this week in Belmont Harbor, according to police. Wood went out for a paddleboard around 11:10 a.m. Monday and as soon as he saw the body, “Mr. Wood immediately notified 911 of this discovery,” according to a police report.
According to the Chicago Tribune:
Officers notified Area North detectives and took photos of the body, according to the report. On the victim’s left wrist was an identification tag indicating the man had been reporting missing by a North Side nursing home after being released by a local hospital on June 19, the report said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as a 40-year-old man from the 5400 block of North Broadway. An autopsy conducted today was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the office.
Kerry Wood had no comment on the situation.
