While the umpires of Major League Baseball are currently sucking the air out of as many teams as possible, heads are turning for a completely different reason in Arizona. That reason – diminutive Didi Gregorius.
Included in the 9-player, 3-team trade that brought Shin-Soo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds and sent big-time prospect Trevor Bauer to the Cleveland Indians, Didi was considered a defensive prospect who may or may not pan out offensively in the majors. Brought up from the Minors more out of necessity when star Aaron Hill was injured, Didi quickly made an impact at the Major League level by connecting for a home run on his very first at-bat of the year – and it has not slowed yet. With a slash line of .422/.469/.733 in his first three weeks on the job, the only thing that could slow him down is a pitch to the head. Wait! That already happened. And it didn’t stop him.
So when Didi isn’t making amazing plays in the field, you can find him at the top of the Diamondbacks lineup making life difficult for opposing pitchers. Did I just introduce you to your new favorite player?
