Rudy Giuliani, the famous New York City mayor and one-time lawyer to Donald Trump, is filing for bankruptcy in an effort to avoid financial ruin. And unfortunately for him, his debts still include some pretty massive golf club membership fees.

A federal judge ruled in December that Giuliani owed $148 million to a pair of Georgia election workers that a jury decided he defamed. The judge said he owed that immediately, while he called that ruling absurd, according to The Independent.

Bankruptcy filings, however, have shown just how ludicrous Giuliani’s financial situation had become before the massive judgment against him.

According to the filings, Giuliani owes almost $40,000 in golf club membership fees.

The Independent reports that bankruptcy court records reveal Giuliani owes $38,520 in unpaid membership fees to Emerald Dunes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Giuliani also owes $647 to Trump International Golf Club.

As The Independent notes, Giuliani successfully raised $700,000 in the days after the judgment against him from a fundraiser hosted by his former boss, Donald Trump.

Prior to declaring bankruptcy, Giuliani had a net worth estimated around $50 million.

It’s been a shocking fall from grace for the mayor who rose to fame after the 9-11 terrorist attacks struck his city. Despite the boost in profile, Giuliani was never able to capture the Republican Party’s presidential nomination despite numerous attempts.
