Wayne Rooney was suspended three matches by UEFA today. The ban, which comes off an incident against Montenegro in which Rooney kicked Miodrag Dzudovic and was shown a straight red, means Rooney will miss the entire group stage of next summers Euro 12 tournament.
UEFA’s disciplinary code specifies ‘the suspension for three competition matches or for a specified period for assaulting another player or person present at the match,’ and can go up to a five-match ban for serious assaults. The British FA had petitioned for leniency in the case but it was not received.
