Harris English had a very rough day during the third round of the TPC Sawgrass Players Stadium Course Saturday. You knew it was going to get very ugly early, as Harris sliced his first tee shot so badly that it ended up nailing a volunteer in the head. The ball hit volunteer Denny Meredith of Jacksonville directly in the head and it took a very large bounce once it did so. Harris shot a 79 on the day and is now tied for 48th in the tournament, he started the day in 4th place.
According to Jacksonville.com:
Meredith never lost consciousness but was transported back to the main First Aid center near the volunteer center. He was later taken by private car to Baptist Beaches to undergo tests.
English walked over to Meredith and apologized for hitting him, then autographed his glove and thanked him for volunteering. Matt Kuchar, English’s playing partner, also autographed a glove for Meredith and thanked him for his service.
