In a horrific nightmare of a scene, a weekend at Daytona turned near tragic today following a massive crash. 28 people are reported as injured when parts of a car flew into the grandstands where spectators were located during a Nationwide Series event on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
According to DIS president Joie Chitwood, 14 fans were transported to local hospitals and 14 were treated at the infield medical center at the track.
Chitwood and NASCAR senior vice president Steve O’Donnell, who briefed the media Saturday evening, said they could release no information on the condition of the fans injured.
