This is one of the worst (and most hilarious) calls I have seen made by an umpire in a very long while. C.B. Bucknor was the first base umpire who got quite fooled by pitcher Cesar Jimenez (who was covering first base) who faked tagging baserunner Christian Yelich. C.B. just conveniently forgot that the ball had to actually be in the hand that touched the runner. We all make mistakes at our jobs, so give C.B. a break. Especially given the fact that he has to watch this play over and over realizing that he made a terrible call.
At least the Phillies and Marlins aren’t playing for a playoff spot, right?
