There were several people who couldn’t understand why the Red Sox, up by two runs, were holding Kolten Wong on the bag with two outs in the ninth inning of Game 4 last night. One of those people was Cardinals play-by-play announcer Michael Shannon, who openly laughed at Mike Napoli holding Wong on and even called it “silly.” His radio call starts around the 2:00 minute mark in the video above.
Ultimately, though, Shannon was the one who wound up looking silly as Koji Uehara successfully picked off Wong at first base to end the game just seconds later. He later went to sleep Sunday night with a strong taste of crow in his mouth.
