It looks like Andrew Bynum’s season is over, even before he set a foot on the court for the Philadelphia 76ers. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and Howard Eskin of FOX 29, Andrew Bynum will undergo season-ending surgery on both knees to address bone bruises and weakened cartilage which has caused him to miss every game thus far. The 76ers can at least be happy about the fact that they will not be on the hook to cover Bynum’s $16.9 million dollar salary thanks to a smart move by placing him under a league-wide insurance .
According to Philly.com:
“There is a leaguewide insurance that he’s (Bynum) under,” Sixers president Rod Thorn said Wednesday before the team hosted the Miami Heat. “There is some relief along those lines.”
Thorn did not say how much of Bynum’s salary would be covered by the insurance. However, he said that the Sixers would get full relief because there are no preexisting conditions that would prevent Bynum’s coverage.
“No, he’s under the full protection,” Thorn said.
