Tonight, Stephen Colbert will host the Late Show for the first time and Vanity Fair was able to get a bunch of other late night talk show hosts to provide Stephen with some helpful “tips” for his debut.
Of course, given that the late night landscape is ridiculously competitive and the fact that late night hosts are known for being somewhat mischievous, it’s not surprising to watch late night hosts from Jimmy Kimmel to James Corden offer Colbert some truly hilarious suggestions.
1. Be really rude to the guests and wear a lot of cologne – Jimmy Kimmel
2. No advice – John Oliver
3. Save the best bits of your show for the last four minutes – James Corden
4. Do a character – Bill Maher
At least Conan O’Brien came through with some somewhat helpful, if incredibly rich in shade, advice.
“I think that you should try to buy land, real estate. That’s what’s going to last.”
