Sony is getting into the streaming music subscription business, something we’ve seen through the likes of Grooveshark and Spotify, not to mention the anticipated Google music locker service. Sony’s new service, Qriocity, will let users stream music to their internet-conected Sony devices such as Playstation 3, Blu-ray players, and Bravia TVs using a single log-in ID. Where is the mobile device option? The service debuted today in Ireland and the UK and will launch in the U.S., Canada, Australia, France, and some other foreign countries sometime in 2011. Sony is way behind the curve here. As music services move to the cloud which iTunes will eventually do, Sony is taking a step backwards and trying to compete with the iTunes of yesterday which is equivalent of peeing against the wind. I wish you luck.
