Run The Jewels, the hip-hop duo comprised of Killer Mike & El-P, released their latest music video this week and it’s a powerful look at the seemingly endless struggle between police and citizens.
The video for ‘Close Your Eyes (And Count To F**k)’ stars Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire, True Detective) and Keith Stanfield (The Purge: Anarchy, Selma) in an epic and exhausting battle between police and urban youth, respectively. The video also features a rare appearance from collaborator Zach de la Rocha, frontman of Rage Against the Machine.
Along with the video, a written statement is posted on the duo’s website by director AG Rojas.
Run The Jewels has been pretty vocal about high-profile policing controversies recently, most notably when Killer Mike delivered an emotional and poignant speech about Ferguson failing to indict Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Mike Brown prior to a November show in St. Louis.
