While the first official image of Jared Leto’s Joker was divisive to say the least, the recently released trailer for Suicide Squad should help put some of those criticisms over Leto’s tattooed Clown Prince of Crime to rest.
First shown at Comic Con on Saturday, the trailer heavily features Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Will Smith’s Deadshot before it ends the trailer with a small sampling of the main attraction – Leto hamming it up as Batman’s arch-nemesis (speaking of which, there’s a quick shot of Batman riding the top of a car in the trailer that seems very promising).
For those that don’t follow DC Comics much, Suicide Squad is based off of the Suicide Squad comics, where the government sends supervillains out to do their bidding in exchange for commuted sentences (which honestly sounds like the worst idea ever, but hey, comics).
The trailer looks fantastic as the gritty and grimdark look actually suits the subject matter and Leto does a pretty good job as Joker, even though his delivery is somewhat similar to Heath Ledger’s iconic take on the role.
