I’ve gotta be honest, when I saw the first few previews for Spike’s new show ‘Lip Sync Battle’ – yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like – I shook my head because I thought it was going to be a super lame rip-off of the bits Jimmy Fallon occasionally does on The Tonight Show.
While the new show – hosted by LL Cool J – definitely does steal Fallon’s schtick, I do respect the fact that it doesn’t try to hide it. Hell, Fallon seems cool with it too, considering he takes part in the show at some point.
But for a show like this to work it has to involve a good batch of A-List celebrities who are willing to take it seriously and put in a decent amount of effort & planning before the take the stage. From the looks of the trailer embedded above, both of those factors look to be taken care of in the first season of the show.
We’ve got Fallon bringing in an entire choir, Anna Kendrick dancing to ‘Booty’ with Jennifer Lopez, John Krasinski stripping down to a leotard (or whatever the hell that outfit is) and Stephen Merchant dancing in a cage while wearing leather assless chaps. If that doesn’t hold your attention, nothing will.
And, hey, having Chrissy Teigen as a co-host/judge doesn’t hurt either.
Yeah, this should be pretty fun. I’m in.
