Roland Emmerich is finally getting around to the Independence Day sequel he’s been talking about since forever. Today, 20th Century Fox announced a July 3rd, 2015 release date for Independence Day 2. Unfortunately, Will Smith is unlikely to participate in this one (so much for getting an encore of “welcome to Earf!”), but Bill Pullman is on board to reprise his role as the now-ex POTUS.
The plot takes place twenty years after the events of the first film, and focuses on an invasion of alien reinforcements (maybe this time they’ll remember to update their computer virus protection?). Also, the film will have a cliffhanger that leads into a second sequel.
I have a feeling something bad is going to happen to the White House again. Unless, in the post-ID world, the president resides in an underground bunker. Either way, we can’t wait!
