Ah, Johnny Football.
Little have accomplished as much as he has in such a short period of time. From being the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy, beating an undefeated Alabama, and headlining Mel Kiper’s 2014 NFL draft big board, the guy has been pretty successful in his two seasons at Texas A&M.
But it’s not only his performance on the field that has received widespread attention.
No, it’s his performance off the field that has made him subject to a bevy of external reactions: character assassinations, moral judgements, anger, disappointment, and even adoration and respect by some.
In just two years, he became college football’s most contentious player, from a media perspective. He became Johnny Pariah.
Say what you want about Manziel and his lifestyle, but at the end of the day, he’s a 21-year old college student that happens to be pretty decent at football. Remember when you were a 21-year old college student? Were you a good boy/girl that abstained from sex, drugs, and alcohol, went to bed on time, refused to attend parties, and all-in-all, had a tame experience?
Hell. No.
So in honor of his #1 pick projection, here’s a compilation tribute of all of Jonny Football’s most controversial moments, featuring your favorite drivel-spewing talking heads, Lou Holtz, Stephen A. Smith, and Skip Bayless, who calls Manziel a disgrace to the Heisman Trophy and then professes his love for the kid in a matter of seconds. Enjoy!
