If Fallon can have The Roots, Seth Meyers can have an equally as awesome house band. That might be difficult considering there isn’t a better house band for Late Night than The Roots, but it appears Meyers is doing the best he can.
Today, Meyers took to his Twitter to announce that fellow SNL alum Fred Armisen will serve as his new Late Night band leader.
Armisen, who is most known for SNL and his current show, Portlandia, had his start in entertainment way back in the ’80s playing drums with his punk band Trenchmouth. While on SNL, Armisen played many music-based roles like Ian Rubbish, the English anarchist punk rocker.
Armisen’s new house band, the 8G Band, will include members of Les Savy Fav, Girls Against Boys, and Kim Thompson – whose resumé includes working with Beyoncé. Late Night With Seth Meyers premieres February 24th, so expect to see Armisen (or Ian Rubbish?) in a few sketches as well.
If you doubt Armisen’s musical abilities, then check out this video of him playing every instrument in a cover of The Clash’s “Police On My Back”
