Bob Ross was a staple in my house growing up. My father not only watched the show religiously but he taped them. To this day I’m pretty sure there are about twenty VHS cassettes full of Bob Ross painting shows. Dad would paint as well, and our house showed it. There were dozens of paintings hung around our home, all in that familiar Bob Ross style.
For those of you who don’t know, Bob Ross was the host of the public television series The Joy of Painting. The show ran from January 11, 1983 to May 17, 1994 and still appears in reruns in many broadcast areas and countries. During each half-hour segment, Ross would instruct viewers in the art of oil painting using a quick-study technique that kept colors to a minimum and broke paintings down into simple steps that virtually anyone could follow. Bob’s soft voice and calm demeanor often led people to compare him to Fred Rogers, or Mr. Rogers, in case the name isn’t familiar. On July 4, 1995, Ross died after a battle with lymphoma.
Somewhere out there, I’m sure Bob is smiling at this happy little remix. Enjoy.
