After the Ohio State Buckeyes signed Kansas State Wildcats transfer quarterback Will Howard out of the transfer portal this offseason, many fans expected quarterback Devin Brown to hit the transfer portal. But not only is he staying to compete for the starting job with Howard, but it sounds like he impressed his coach on the first day of spring practice.
Devin Brown took the reps with the first-team offense during Ohio State’s first spring practice of the year on Thursday, and it sounds like head coach Ryan Day was pleased by what he saw from his quarterback.
“I was impressed with how he practiced today,” Ryan Day said. “He had a good demeanor. He had that same conviction out at practice that he shared with you guys the past couple of days. So, if he keeps building like that, I mean he’s gonna have a hell of a spring.”
During his press conference earlier this week, Brown made it very clear that he had no intention of transferring and was “here to compete no matter what.”
Based on the way he performed in practice this week, it sounds like that is definitely the case and he has a real chance of winning the starting job even with Howard joining the roster.
