With last week’s loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinal, Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers has played his last game with the team.
This week, Quinn Ewers formally announced his intent to leave the team and enter the NFL Draft, skipping his senior season of college football eligibility.
“These past three years have been some of the best years I could have imagined,” Ewers said in a video posted on his social media Wednesday in announcing his decision to enter the draft.
“The relationships I’ve built between coaches and teammates will last forever. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to play football in my home state at the best university in the world. With prayer and careful consideration, I’m officially declaring for the NFL Draft.
“Thank you. Hook ’em.”
Ewers leaves Texas with a 27-9 overall record as a starter, helping lead the team to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff.
It’s worth noting that Ewers reportedly turned down an $8 million NIL offer from another college football program to return to college football for another season and transfer from Texas, but Ewers decided to enter the NFL Draft, instead.
Ewers is expected to be selected anywhere between the late first round and the beginning of the third round in the upcoming NFL Draft.
With Ewers now officially leaving Texas, highly-touted young quarterback Arch Manning is now set to take over as the team’s starting quarterback next season.
