The Ohio State Buckeyes are fresh off a victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Monday night, but it looks like one of their quarterbacks has officially left the team.
Following the end of the regular season, Ohio State backup quarterback Devin Brown announced that he was planning to enter the transfer portal but would stick with the team throughout the playoff run. But with the conclusion of the national championship game, it sounds like he is officially gone.
According to college football insider Max Olson of ESPN, Devin Brown is leaving Ohio State to sign with the Cal Bears, where he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
“Ohio State transfer QB Devin Brown has signed with Cal, sources told ESPN,” Olson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
“Big get for the Bears. The former top-100 recruit has patiently waited for a chance to become a starter. Brown will have 2 more seasons of eligibility,” Olson added.
Brown served as the backup quarterback for starter Will Howard the entire season. However, even with Howard out of eligibility, Brown is not returning to Ohio State to compete for the starting spot next season.
With Brown gone, Ohio State returns freshman Julian Sayin and sophomore Lincoln Keinholz while adding incoming freshman Tavien St. Clair.
We’ll have to see how Brown performs at his next destination and who Ohio State turns to as their next starting quarterback.
