It sounds like a former Ohio State Buckeyes football player is in trouble with the law.
According to a report from NBC4, former Ohio State wide receiver Corey Smith Jr. was arrested on federal charges this week after he was wanted for a federal probation violation in West Virginia.
“Corey Davonta Smith Jr., 31, who was a wide receiver for the Buckeyes from 2013-2016, was arrested at a house on Republic Avenue late Wednesday morning by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Apprehension Team,” Daniel Griffin of NBC4 Columbus reported.
“According to a spokesperson for the marshals service, when officers knocked on the door of the Republic Avenue home, Smith answered but then shut the door on the officers. He allegedly then ran up into the attic, where he was arrested.”
Smith played for the Buckeyes between 2013 and 2016 under then-coach Urban Meyer. During that time, he helped lead Ohio State to three Big Ten championships, two College Football Playoff appearances, and one national championship in 2014. In fact, the most productive game of his entire college career came in the 2015 national championship game against Oregon when he caught two passes for 76 yards.
Smith has faced drug-related legal issues over the past several years.
