Arch Manning is likely in line to start for Texas in 2025. His father Cooper believes that, at the end of the day, that probably wound up for the best.
When Manning committed to the Texas Longhorns, he did so with a ton of hype behind him. As expected as a Manning, he’ll have plenty of attention on him wherever he goes. But he was the backup to Quinn Ewers, who helped lead the Longhorns to consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals in 2023 and 2024.
Cooper joined The Dan Patrick Show ahead of the Super Bowl this weekend. Arch’s dad explained to the former longtime SportsCenter anchor that Manning sitting on the bench this year, while he might not have liked it, is likely to help him in the long run.
“I think having your children struggle with some things is good. Yeah, it’s frustrating not to play. Did he love it? No. Was it probably good for him in the long run? Yes,” Manning said on his son’s status this past year via On3.
Manning continued. “You don’t want your kiddos to come home and be unhappy. But at the same time sometimes going through a little hardship and some bumps in the road are good. Arch is going to have plenty more of those. These are the real ones,” he explained.
“So, he’s getting way too much attention and way too much credit and he’s going to struggle,” Manning guessed. “And they’re going to say, ‘He’s not as good. He’s overrated.’ It’s coming. Everybody knows it. So, it’s kind of easy to see the writing on the wall.”
Arch’s dad talked and made a lot of sense.
