The North Carolina Tar Heels have been among the best teams in college basketball in recent years. And a big reason for all of their success has been because of the excellence of star shooting guard RJ Davis.
Davis has played an integral part in the Tar Heels’ success over the course of his four-year career at the program.
This past season was the best from an individual perspective of Davis’ career, averaging 21.2 points per game while shooting a career-high 39.8 shooting percentage on three-point shots. His impressive year was enough for Davis to be named a consensus first-team All-American.
Given these numbers, there was certainly a chance that Davis was going to leave the program and perhaps try his hand at a professional career. But instead, he announced on his Instagram page Wednesday that he will be returning to play for the Tar Heels next season.
Having a player like Davis return to the program certainly has to be great news to UNC head coach Hubert Davis, who has relied on Davis to come up big in moments for the majority of the season last year.
His return only adds to what should be a very stacked backcourt for the Tar Heels next season. Seth Trimble and Elliot Cadeau will also both be returning next season and will be accompanied by five-star high school recruit Ian Jackson, who should get plenty of opportunities as well in his freshman season.
