Earlier this month, a report surfaced indicating that NBA superstar and noted Ohio State Buckeyes fan LeBron James was “pushing” for Ohio State to hire Dusty May as their next head coach after the team decided to fire previous head coach Chris Holtmann. Ohio State ultimately decided not to hire May, but it sounds like James still supports the new hire.
On Sunday, the Ohio State Buckeyes officially announced that interim head coach Jake Dieber would remain the full-time head coach of the men’s basketball program after leading the team to a 6-2 record down the stretch and narrowly missing out on an NCAA Tournament appearance.
And LeBron James was quick to offer his support on social media.
Shortly after Ohio State formally announced the news, James shared a post to his Instagram story congratulating Jake Diebler on getting the job, making it clear that he supports the move.
How's that for an endorsement? 👀@KingJames | @JakeDiebler pic.twitter.com/0HhyKOyU4A

“Congrats Diebs!!!!” James said on his Instagram story, adding several clapping emojis for effect.
James has been a prominent and vocal supporter of the Buckeyes for many years, providing special cleats and shoes to both the football and basketball teams. He’s long insisted that if he went to college he would have attended Ohio State and even has an honorary locker in the Ohio State men’s basketball locker room.
So the Buckeyes will be glad to have James’ endorsement of their new head coach.
