The Iowa Hawkeyes suffered a bit of a scare in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday night when the West Virginia Mountaineers threatened the top-seeded Hawkeyes until the final buzzer. But Iowa ultimately prevailed, and it sounds like they might have the home crowd to thank.
After the game, Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark said that the Iowa Hawkeyes fed off the energy from the home crowd during the hard-fought win on Monday night.
“I think we used our crowd,” Clark said after the game according to On3. “We knew we gave up a run to start the quarter but this team was never flustered. I think that speaks to our experience. Couldn’t be happier for this group. We wanted to go out on a high note for our five seniors… It’s just really special. Proud of them.”
The game marked Clark’s final home game as a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball program as she is planning to enter the WNBA Draft following the conclusion of the season.
Obviously, Clark and the other seniors on the team wanted to go out with a win in front of their home crowd, and they were able to do just that.
