Angel Reese and the LSU Tigers will be taking on Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Elite Eight on Monday. And with Clark emerging as arguably the biggest superstar in women’s college basketball history, it’s likely that a lot of people will be rooting against the Tigers on Monday night. But Reese doesn’t seem to have a problem with that.
During an interview ahead of the Elite Eight matchup with the Hawkeyes, Angel Reese made it clear that the team is embracing the role of villain this season.
“We’re the good villains,” Reese said ahead of the Elite Eight according to On3. “I was talking to Kramer about that. Everybody wants to beat LSU. Everybody wants to be LSU. Everybody wants to play against LSU.
“You’ve got to realize like we’re not any regular basketball team. Like Coach talks about it all the time, she calls us the Beatles. People run after our butts. People are coming at games. You’re seeing sellouts, you’re seeing people buying jerseys, you’re seeing more sellouts than the men.”
The comment came after an LA Times column that suggested the Sweet 16 matchup between UCLA and LSU was a heroes vs. villains story. But it’s pretty clear that Reese’s mentality can be applied to the upcoming showdown with Iowa and Clark, too.
