The Michigan Wolverines are on the heels of a historic season. The Wolverines went undefeated in 2023 and won the College Football Playoff. Michigan’s victory over Washington gave the program its first National Championship in football since 1997.
But in 2024, they are probably going to be a team in transition. The Wolverines feature an incredible defense, but questions reside on offense. Specifically at quarterback. Michigan will replace the accomplished J.J. McCarthy, who capped off his college career with the National Title win back in January.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel recently updated the college football world on the quarterback battle in Ann Arbor and offered his take on who he thinks is the current frontrunner on a recent episode of the College GameDay podcast.
“I think it’s Alex Orji,” Thamel said via On3. Thamel explained that he walked and acted like the starter, so Thamel believes that means he will be the starting quarterback.
Whether Orji starts or not, Michigan will have an interesting test ahead of them this year. They play what should be a Top 5-ranked Texas Team in Week 2 and will play Big Ten newcomers USC and Oregon this year in Ann Arbor. A title rematch in Seattle awaits them against the Huskies, and of course, so does arch-rival Ohio State. The Buckeyes aren’t quite set at quarterback either, which could make for interesting things later, but the Wolverines will surely have the spotlight on them.
