On an already unprecedented Monday, the Detroit Lions made headlines. The Lions announced that Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson will enter the team’s Hall of Fame.

Johnson will enter the Pride of the Lions, the aptly-coined team Hall of Fame, signaling the end to an icy relationship over nearly a decade.

Detroit announced the big news about Megatron on X, the popular website formerly known as Twitter.

Johnson, affectionately known as Megatron, joined the Lions in 2007 after Detroit selected him with the second overall pick. He made six Pro Bowls, was named to three All-Pro teams, and earned All-Decade honors for the 2010s. Johnson recorded 11,619 career receiving yards on 731 receptions and scored 83 career touchdowns.

Simply put, Megatron was one of the greatest ever to do it. Now, Detroit will honor him, ending a tumultuous relationship between the two sides for many years. Things have smoothed out recently, but this announcement indicates that everything has since defrosted.

The sports world had much to say about the Lions’ epic announcement about the man they call “Megatron.”
