Josh Freeman was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday afternoon, ending the dramatic soap opera that had unraveled between the team and their former starting quarterback recently.
Freeman and coach Greg Schiano had a well-documented falling out this year. Freeman reportedly missed the team photo earlier this year and his teammates didn’t select him as a team captain for the first time since his rookie campaign. After three disappointing performances to start the season, the quarterback was benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon.
Freeman then accused the organization of leaking confidential information about his involvement in the NFL’s drug program. After unsuccessfully trying to trade him for more than a week, the Bucs finally put an end to the saga by granting Freeman his release this week.
