San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner was slammed with a $21,000 fine for his hit on Rams wide receiver Chris Givens on Tuesday and today he appealed it. Whitner claims his hits are legal and there’s even an entire clothing line dedicated to proclaiming his innocence.
Whitner believes his “Legal Hitner” t-shirts are such a hit that he is legally changing his name to “Hitner.”

It's official…The W is being removed from my last name from Whitner to Hitner…GM

Hitner is much more marketable than Whitner and it was commendable that he got his mom’s permission before going through with it. I’m just glad his last name wasn’t “Whitler.”
