If you consider yourself a big fan of NBA great Dikembe Mutombo, you should be really jealous of Adrian Petrus right about now. Petrus recently purchased a foreclosed storage unit at an auction in Maryland, and, after being granted full access to the unit, he stumbled upon an incredible stash of Mutombo memorabilia.
The unit was owned by one of Dikembe’s brothers, and it foreclosed after he’d missed a few rental payments. TMZ Sports reports that the missed payments occurred at a time when Dikembe’s brother had returned to the Congo in the wake of his father’s death.
Petrus attempted to contact Dikembe about returning the memorabilia (which includes not only basketball-related items — signed basketballs, shoes, jerseys — but also art and photos of him with Michael Jackson and Nelson Mandela) but didn’t receive a reply. The full gallery of memorabilia is available at TMZ, and it provides an interesting snapshot into the humanitarian’s life.
