You know what, we here at Next Impulse Sports had a pretty nice weekend. We followed it up with a pretty decent Monday, too. In fact, we were all feeling really good about the stretch run of summer, especially with Labor Day Weekend festivities on the horizon…and then this story had to go and fuck it all up:
Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne (Australia), was found dead Friday while visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend lives. Three boys, ages 15, 16, and 17, are in custody and face a court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday a woman called 911 after she saw Lane stagger across the road and fall to the ground in the south-central Oklahoma town of about 24,000 residents. Ford said Lane, who was staying with his girlfriend and her family in Duncan, had jogged past a home where the three boys were staying. He said the shooting appeared to be completely random.
Not only did it appear to be completely random, it was also out of sheer boredom, according to Chief Ford:
“They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: ‘There’s our target,'” Ford said. “The boy who has talked to us said: ‘We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.'”
“They followed him in the car to that area, shot him in the back and drove off,” Ford said.
It appears the trio wasn’t finished after one shooting though, as they are also alleged to have shot and killed a second person later that night. And, if you think the lunacy stopped there, you’d be wrong, as they followed up their shooting spree with an abhorrent brag post on Facebook: “bang, two drops in two hours.”
All we have to say is have fun in prison for the next 25 years-to-life, kiddies. In the meantime, let’s watch these adorable lion, tiger and hyena cubs again, so we can rid our brains of this terribleness.
