The long-running joke after every major sports championship is that the loser automatically becomes the winner in whatever third-world country the unused, non-actual-champion t-shirts are sent to. For San Antonio Spurs fans lamenting their recent loss to the Miami Heat, it didn’t take a trip overseas to see what it’s like to be Fake 2013 NBA Champions, as NBATV inadvertently (cruelly?) ran a promo showing what might have been.
However, its existence begs a few questions: if the league sends the t-shirts off to parts unknown, what happens to these promos? Would NBATV run a half-hour special titled “NBA Finals Runners-Up: The Lost Promos”? Admit it, you’d watch, just because it’d be funny to see what they managed to cobble together that one time Cleveland went to the Finals.
