According to Mlb.com The Yankees scrambled very quickly after losing the Cliff Lee sweepstakes and signed catcher Russell Martin from the Dodgers. Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports that the Yankees have agreed to a contract with free agent catcher Russell Martin. The Red Sox and Blue Jays tried hard to lure in the 27-year-old catcher, but the Yankees may be offering him a chance to start, at least through the first half of the 2011 season while prospect Jesus Montero gets a little more time at Triple-A. Martin posted an ugly .248/.347/.332 batting line in 2010 for the Dodgers but is only a few years away from consecutive All-Star nods. He might turn his career around in the hitter-friendly parks of the AL East.
