Hall of Fame defensive end Deacon Jones died of natural causes Monday at age 74. Drafted in 1961, Jones spent most of his 14-year career with the Los Angeles Rams, before joining the Chargers and Redskins for short stints. The appointed “Secretary of Defense” notched eight Pro Bowl elections and five All Pro honors during his career, and was a member of the “Fearsome Foursome” that wreaked havoc in the trenches for many years.
We’d like to take a moment, though, to highlight the above video, in which Deacon himself details the effectiveness of the Deacon Jones Head Slap. It’s one of the greatest athlete interviews in history, and our way of paying tribute to the legend.
