When I first saw UNDRCRWN’s limited edition Reign Umbrella — an homage to Seattle SuperSonics legend Shawn “The Reign Man” Kemp — I had to let out a small chuckle, mainly because it’s marketed towards a city where people don’t actually use umbrellas. (If you don’t believe me, walk through Downtown Seattle sometime during an average “rainy” day and count the umbrellas. You’ll find more on one city block in Manhattan than all of Seattle.)
You see, for as much as people like to think it rains a lot in Seattle, it really doesn’t. It’s just gray most of the time (and by “most of the time”, I mean every day of the year, except for July and August), and rainfall, for the most part, falls in the form of light drizzle. In other words, the Emerald City rarely experiences true “umbrella weather”.
Nevertheless, it’s a pretty awesome piece. One that I would gladly prop next to my front door, yet never actually take outside, for fear of looking like a tourist. It should also be noted that at the time this published, it was 67 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Okay, so maybe it’s not that bad up here in the Northwest.
