True to their city, the Los Angeles Dodgers opened the 2013 season with a bit of Hollywood theatrics. Following the star-studded intro video, team owner Magic Johnson stood on the mound waiting to throw the ceremonial first pitch to Orel Hershiser (the 1988 Dodgers were being honored before the game) when manager Don Mattingly came out to the mound to talk things over with his boss.
Mattingly called for the lefty, and none other than the legendary Sandy Koufax strode out to the mound and finally delivered the first pitch.
The Dodgers went on to beat the rival Giants 4-0 behind a complete game shutout from Clayton Kershaw, who also opened the scoring with his first career home run.
