Everyone knows that college sports are all about recruiting. DePaul University, located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, is at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to recruiting for golf. Between the frigid winters and the mild commute to their home course, DePaul’s urban campus location undercuts the university from being any sort of a national power in golf. However, recruiting involves much more than location and this team finds ways to continue to compete, not least of which are the outfits featured above.
Some might call the Blue Demons, the Oregon Ducks of college golf, and I would agree. No they do not run a spread offense and their coach did not just bolt to be a swing coach on the PGA Tour. The comparison is about the uniforms. The Oregon Ducks football team is known for their innovative and down right loud jerseys, and word is that these jerseys have helped with recruiting. Young players love seeing the flashy uniforms and picture themselves on TV donning the stand out apparel. Form the picture above, it is clear that DePaul Men’s Golf adopted a similar strategy. From Payne Stewart, to John Daly’s pants, to Ricky Fowler, fashion has always been a part of golf, and obviously DePaul wants their recruits to see that their team will be on the cutting edge of fashion when it comes to their uniforms.
One small suggestion, let’s decide on one belt color fellas.
