Out of all the apologies that have been issued to NHL fans for the lockout, this seemingly small gesture by the Blue Jackets goes a long way. They wore jerseys reading “Thank You Fans” during warm-ups prior to their home opener against the Detroit Red Wings. Something about printing it on the backs of the players makes it a little more meaningful and worthy of attention. It’s also a very smart and strategic move by their management to endear themselves to their rapidly dwindling fan-base. Rumor has it they were offering 2-for-1 tickets, food vouchers, and free goodies just to rein in some fans for opening day. Poor Blue Jackets…but Hey! They’ve come away with at least a point in both games so far. That’s more than can be said about a dozen other teams.
