Independent league baseball have been known to overwhelmingly think way beyond the unconventional box when planning promotional activities for their fans.
The Florence Freedom (Florence, KY) has decided to take that uncoventional wisdom a step further while combining with one of sports’ greatest giveaways: bobbleheads.
In attempt to capitalize on the Manti Te’o girlfriend controversy, the team announced Thursday they will run a Manti Te’o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day in late May.
Aside from Te’o, who isn’t amused? Even Jack Swarbrick gave a slight chuckle.
According to the team’s press release, the first 1,000 fans will receive an empty bobblehead box, but the fun continues with a fake kiss cam to smooch your imaginary friends along with a fake food fight in the children’s area.
Freedom general manager Josh Anderson was quoted, “There’s not a lot to do to get attention in January. You have to find some way to get the buzz.”
Congratulations Mr. Anderson, you have certainly succeeded.
