During last night’s BCS National Championship rout game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, ESPN showed a short clip of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s girlfriend, Miss Alabamba, Katherine Webb.
Immediately after that clip, Miss Alabama starting gaining Twitter followers at an absurd rate. According to the master of useless statistical tweets, Darren Rovell, Webb had just over 500 Twitter followers before the game. Since then, she has amassed over 170,000 Twitter followers. Far surpassing that of her boyfriend, AJ McCarron.
After the game, one member of the media informed McCarron of the amount of Twitter followers his girlfriend had gained – including LeBron James – and his reaction was pretty funny.
From USA Today:
Coming off his second national championship in as many years, McCarron couldn’t feel threatened by the attention. Both Webb and McCarron said he’s not the jealous type, at least not about unwanted advances Webb gets from other men.
Getting a follow from [LeBron] James, however briefly, that’s a different story.
“Say you swear,” he said to a reporter after being told of James following his girlfriend. “Man, I’m gonna tweet him and I’m gonna get a follow. That’s messed up. Hey, I guess she’s more famous than me now.”
