As a life-long Eagles fan, I have no mixed feelings about Andy Reid being fired as the Iggs’ head coach. It was time. CSNPhilly.com’s Geoff Mosher gives us a great breakdown of 5 major decision-making failures on Reid’s part that hurried along what many felt was an inevitable outster if things didn’t improve for the team this season. From the standpoint of a fan, these five issues were no more than the culmination of countless head-scratching decisions that marred what was overall a quite successful run as an NFL head coach, preventing a perpetually very good team from reaching true greatness during Reid’s 14-year tenure.
It’s almost a perverse relief—now I can sit back and watch how the Eagles rebuild versus facing constant disappointment from a team that never made it to the promised land.
Mosher’s formula 5 for Reid’s downfall:
1.Naming Jim Washburn defensive line coach in 2011
2. Naming Juan Castillo defensive coordinator and Howard Mudd offensive line coach in 2011
3. Drafting Danny Watkins, Jaiquawn Jarret and Curtis Marsh in 2010
4. Signing Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullin Jenkins, Jason Babin and Vince Young in 2011
5. Using Casey Matthews at middle linebacker, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the slot and Moise Fokous at weak-side linebacker.
